Ended at the Emergency Vet hospital with my 10months old German Shepherd. The ball bounced on the ground and the part with the light got out of the ball my dog jumped and catch the ball with went straight down her throat. My dog lost consciousness and we were able to pull the ball out and did CPR on her.The ball without the part with the light is really squishy so it made his way down her throat.

This review is for the new screw in Glowstreak LED ball not the older push in one that is as good as useless.I bought 2 x of the Nite Ize GlowStreak LED Balls as the reviews seemed to be good. I have used them for about 6 months now for 25 minutes in the morning and 25 minutes in the evening (UK so in darkness). The LED light is fantastic and the auto on/off is a winner. The dogs can see the ball and don’t rely on smell to find it. It is superb fun and people get a great laugh when they see us out and about.The LED is contained in a screw in capsule which is easy to unscrew to change batteries (large headed screwdriver required).Here is the problem: The capsule is held in place by the moulded rubber of the ball. As the rubber is flexible the part of the capsule which is not supposed to come out can and does come out. So if you throw the ball and hit something hard (tree roots stones or in my case hard frozen English ground) the capsule will part from the ball. Luckily unlike the old version the capsule can be retrieved and reinserted into the ball. It will pop out again and again but it’s easy to find and the dogs aren’t interested in it so no danger of them crunching on it. They sniff out the ball and bring it back to me to reassemble. With the old version the LED unit would just disintegrate and you would never find all the little parts.So would I buy this again? Yes as although it does come apart during play you can reassemble it quite easily.See photo which shows the capsule out of the ball housing.

It is expensive but having already lost a couple of other illuminated / fluorescent toys in the fields in the space of a week I took a gamble on this one and I think it’s probably worth the money. Yes it’s pricey but it’s probably cheaper in the long run than all the other ones I’d keep losing.My dog is ball daft and a walk without toys is anathema to her.This is really bright and crucially it stays on for absolutely ages. I’ve already lost one illuminated ball because it wasn’t quite bright enough and after a reasonably successful lob with a ball chucker it went out before we could get to it. Which was game over – literally. The red glow is also much nicer to play with in the dark because it seems to interfere less with your night vision adaptation – meaning I could see it and see where I was going. I have a light up frisbee which is excellent but kind of blinding. The white light interferes with my vision adjusting to the dark.This fits in a ball chucker it’s nicely textured for the dog to pick up it feels pretty sturdy and it’s activated by a good throw and stays alight for ten minutes. If you haven’t activated it with another throw for five minutes it starts to flash – which is a very useful feature if you’re trawling through long grass.All in all I’m optimistic that this one might last longer than its predecessors.

This is the best ball I have ever purchased it shines in daylight or dark and cannot hide in bushes and fallen leaves. Although expensive I do not grudge it as we have lost so many balls in the past. My dog loves it and waits impatiently for it to be thrown and carries it all the way home in his mouth and I see immediately if he drops it. Initially I found difficulty in opening the battery compartment but a coin did the trick and one has to periodically check that it firmly closed as it appears loose power.

 This thing is awesome! 100% worth the money a bit fiddly to get open but it has a very intense glow and is very durable – my dog destroys any other toy and this doesn’t even have a scratch even after lots of chomping. Definitely value for money I also recommend getting a thrower with this item to chuck long distances.
