Lifeseeker5.0: Wrist-based monitors have proved problematic and – given all the family know a good bit about these things – we bought the Omron to monitor the BP of a couple of family members. The use in the upper arm is a more consistent method of measurement which accords with standard BP monitoring. In order to check consistency we always measure BPs 3 times with a minute between each leaving the cuff in the same place. The Omron delivered an excellent level of consistency in measurements – a variation of 2 to 3 mm only. Be aware that the overall majority of “budget” monitors can/will deliver a measurement that can be as much as 10mm different than a professionally performed manual BP measurement that a doctor or trained nurse (stethoscope in ears and on the arm looking at a column of mercury that is hand cranked up) can do.However with the consistency that this unit delivered we were satisfied that the measurements were accurate enough to indicate a positive change in condition at home.*** PLEASE NOTE: No matter how good no home BP monitor is a substitute for professional review and diagnosis. ***
PJ5.0: I have a small wrist monitor from the same manufacturer also clinically validated which I like very much as it is very convenient especially when travelling. That one is small and lightweight and has its own hard case. However the GP kept saying that an upper arm monitor was more accurate. I told the GP my readings at home on the wrist monitor seemed OK – within the normal range. Now I’ve got both and I can compare. My GP was right the wrist monitor consistently gives lower readings than the upper arm monitor. That’s why I am recommending this Omron MIT Elite Upper Arm BP monitor. It does have disadvantages – not so handy to use when in a hurry fairly large and bulky and a bit heavier if you want to pack it in a suitcase (I tend to keep it in its box for protection though it has a fabric case so the box adds to the weight) and feels less comfortable at maximum inflation. One irritation is that when putting it away in its case it’s easy to accidentally touch the ON button and set it off. However for peace of mind if you need to monitor your BP this is good. Maybe the ‘white-coat’ effect wasn’t that after all! My readings at home are now quite a bit closer to the GP’s and my BP wasn’t in the ideal/normal range when I thought it was.
Robert Jones5.0: I had been experiencing bouts of fatigue which my GP said could be partly due to low blood pressure so I bought the Omron monitor to check myself.Very easy to use other than trying to fit the sleeve one handed. Instructions are clear and simple – as is the display. It saves the readings but I enter them on a spreadsheet. It only takes three minutes before my morning shower.I asked my wife to try it one morning – good thing too!. Her reading was 200 over 110. She had been told that she had “cluster headaches” and was prescribed painkillers. Her GP had not given her a blood pressure test. She was in great potential danger of stroke and was totally unaware of it.This inexpensive gadget may have averted a domestic tragedy for us. A better gift than a DVD box-set in my opinion. A lot to gain for so little money.
Mrs Emm5.0: Excellent product and well worth the money. Easy to use and very compactly portable in its well – made little case. Memory function very useful. Highly accurate readings ( I have cross – checked from time totime ) . The batteries last for many months even when frequent readings are taken. My only reservation is that a very thorough online search for a replacement medium sleeve drew a complete blank – all replacements carried the warning ‘ not suitable for MIT Elite ‘ . The original sleeve supplied shows job sign of wearing out after a full year’s use but I was keen to identify a replacement well in advance.
pumi634.0: the product design is aesthetically good and the finish and quality is excellent . However the pricing is steep for what is basically a blood pressure monitor with memories !. A desirable feature would be the capability to link up this device to a pc or laptop for a number of individuals to monitor and store readings over a period of time and aid assessment over time even better a wireless capability and for a small charge (monthly) facilitate a private facility to monitor readings and evaluate etc.Product is easy to use and instructions are comprehensive however a price reduction ofsay £10.00 would be beneficial but then can one place a value on health ! so up to the individual to decide !Keep it away from the kids that expanding arm band could play havoc and drain the batteries too !!
