Andy5.0: I bought this reel for a light alternative for my 9 foot rod. It was the right choice especially at this price mark. The drag is super smooth and strong with some nice seals throughout. The first fish I landed with this thing was a 10 pound bluefish in a decent current. If you are thinking of buying the conflict 2 I would wait and spool this one up. I was pleasantly surprised and am now thinking about getting another. $85 is a no brainer for strength and comfort.
Doug5.0: The Penn Conflict 5000 performed well without tiring me after a full day wadefishing at Seadrift TX catching a 28 inch red a 16″ seatrout an 18 inch flounder and numerous other throwbacks. I paired it with a 7-foot St Croix rod and 30-lb braid reaching reach up to 30 yards with ease. I look forward to future trips as I’m still looking for the real tset for this reel.
